if you played Starcraft 1 you can definetly play Starcraft 2...especially when it comes to the campaign and singleplayer matches...without using the cheats.
there are a lot of differences especially since the games have different units, with different abilities and also different HP or energy values, or even build time
While the units and all are mostly or completely different, the basic gameplay mechanics are still there. It wouldnt take long for a sc1 veteran to get used to the sc2 gameplay.
I played a lot of Starcraft, unfortunately not any SC2 yet.
Would you say the overall strategy is the same, or are there major differences?
What would a newbie to SC2 need to know?
Cheers

Other than graphics pretty much improved unit pathing units and stuff. Music is kinda hard to decide :\
Terran: sc1 music is great but its mostly synthesized cuz of low tech in the past
protoss: improved
zerg:???
