It does the same thing on Windows 7, the problem is that the beta was patched recently and broke everything - takes time to get that shit working again, just wait for it.
beta version was sent to testers i am waiting for their feedback.
for now i have to keep it close to few people, because if i release it you will start crying later why things changed, BETA is test not supported and nothing is certain for the future.
now the 6.7.2. in XP cant run any map because of a windows weakness.
in w vista or 7 with EMPTY all cache b.net AND map cache from the maps folder in your documents\sc2\...blablabla the games will work 100%!
i am gona wait few more hours for the feedback and then maybe l may post the link to the beta 7.7.2 for everyone to test but for a sort time.
ok i am releasing the beta, THERE IS NO SUPPORT FOR BETA! just give me your feedback.
replays are not ready 100% in beta so dont complain about them, too much! :P i must get some rest i am awake 26hours straight. anyone who wishes to try can download it from here. i would recomend ou use the new official cache files, and clean maps and clean maps cache!
only original maps plz!
7.7.2beta plz dont spread this as a new release its only for testing and nothing more! but will probably make some XP users very happy. http://rapidshare.com/files/374124255/SC2ALLin1_setup772BETA.exe dont uploaded to other mirros this beta will be up for 10 hours only!

i noticed that when i tried start a game thru launcher, map is copied to download folder in C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache\Download
6)install the latest cache files (the link its in the tool's button 9)NOW START A GAME with the new CACHE INSTALLED! exit and Watch your REPLAY!
everything is great!
i will do some more imporvements and release the official 7.2.2 today! stay TUNED
i was having the same issues with you guys and it was all from the stupid cache files!
also remember
there are 2 cache folders one in this location for example C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\StarCraft II Beta\Maps\Cache
and the other is a map cache folder plz try to clear them both
play GAMES and WAtche the replays AFTER the correct CacheFiles is installed otherwise replays will NOT WORK!!!!!
older games with older AI and bad games with 6.7.2 are broken so dont expect to be watchable!!!
there are some issues still in the beta its not perfect, but thats why we call it beta ;-) i just perfected replays, if you play with latest cache game it will always load correctly, also i am fixing the b.net replays to be again fully supported!

i cant download cache update from sc2win.com , is there any mirror i know win 7 vista users have no problem with launching game, its just xp users .i want know if anybody of xp users can launch game and can lead us and i dont know what cache files can do with launching
I've followed every direction so have a couple people I know, and were still getting "unable to open map" issue. Your older launcher still works with beta 8 fyi.
Is it just me with this problem? The launcher screws with my pc. It slows everything down by a bunch. "Add maps from folder" Takes MINUTES to load the correct folder. When i close the launcher i can't even turn off my pc/open other programs, have to pull the plug... I did a full reinstall of beta and followed all the steps. (xp user) Not bitching, just asking for help because when its working its simply the best launcher there is!
lol dude are you seriously just going to say "well you're doing something wrong if it doesn't work?" Obviously if this many people are having problems there's something wrong with your programming. Why don't you stop talking crap to people, telling them to stop crying, read the input and fix your flawed program?
I just downgraded (or upgraded) to the 5.7.0 launcher and it launches the 8.0 SC2 update fine, so obviously it's not the patch that changed things, it's your update that is causing the problems.
If you guys are getting the "unable to launch game" message, downgrade to the 5.7.0 launcher. It works with the 8.0 sc patch as well as the 7.0 AI.
I've done a fresh install this morning of SC2 & a fresh install of ai1 7.2.2 but no mater what I do I continue to get "unable to open map". I've cleared the cache & installed the fresh cache you provided in previous posts. I've trouble shot this dead horse over & over, yesterday & today, but continue to get "unable to open map". I keep hearing that a previous version of your launcher works with the current beta8 patch & was wondering if you could link it until you fix the ai1 beta.
My system is: OS: XP SP3 CPU: P4 2.53ghz Ram: 2gb GPU: nVidia GeForce 6200
Same error here, after all day copying, updating, installing, reinstalling, cache manipulation etc...."unable to open map" Windows Pro XP SP3,but if YOU want latest version cracked, should be patient and give mr. Vernam7 some time, and understanding about his Great tool and effort!
cache in C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache MUST be cleaned and then paste there the latest original "Cache0408.zip" unzipped in there!
and the map cache must be EMTPY dotn place there the cache folders
like this example!

Not true - clean cache, your cache, official cache, official maps, syk0 maps, doesn't make a difference, still will say "unable to open map".
Just saying so you don't think that a clean cache is a fix-all; it clearly isn't, as several people have reported.

Everyone who is having problems with "Unable to open map" here's what you gonna do:
1. Go to (for win7) C:\Users\XXXX\Documents\StarCraft II Beta\Maps ,and delete everything you find in that folder.
2.Remove ALL your maps from vernams7 tool ( in tab "installed maps" right click on map then choose delete).
3.Download one map from this address:
http://sc2.nibbits.com/maps/browse/blizzard/
4.Create new folder somewhere you prefer and place your map there.Do not place your new map in place mentioned in 1.step
5.Add your new map in installed maps tab.
6.Launch the game
cache in C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache MUST be cleaned and then paste there the latest original "Cache0408.zip" unzipped in there!
and the map cache must be EMTPY dotn place there the cache folders
like this example!
a new Beta is coming with different way of loading maps....hmmm i hope this is the solution to you with problems plz wait few mins!
Me again:
Win XP sp3:
1."empty from files and folder:

Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Blizzard Entertainment\Battle.net\Cache
clear folder SC2ALLin1

3.and the true Cache8 files from link
4.use original maps from the above links

uninstall SC2 beta.Fresh install + update +1-4->
Unable to load maps

@mmk
On a second picture you only empty cache folder and i said to delete everything in Maps folder however i see your maps are still there so you didn't do what i said.
Not working for me either with latest BETA on XP. All other loaders are working except yours, so stop saying it's the cache files.

2 picture after 4.use original maps from the above links
after install fresh SC2 + update there is no folder Cache in Maps too...
but Unable to load maps too.. i add it manually but Unable to load maps
