Describe the Special Features of Ceramsite

• Ceramsite can develop rapidly, because it has some excellent performance with which other building materials cannot compare. There are ceramic ball mill and ceramic sand kiln used to produce ceramsite production line. It shows specificly in the following aspects:

  1. Heat preservation and heat insulation. Ceramsite is porous inside, so it is good in heat preservation and heat insulation. The concrete made up of ceramsite is 2 times less than the common concrete in heat conductivity.

  2. Good fire resistance. The common coal ash ceramsite concrete or coal ash ceramsite block combines the functions like heat insulation, anti-knock, antifreeze and refractory together, of which the refractory is 4 times stronger than the common concrete. Under the same refractory period, the ceramsite concrete is 20% thinner than the common concrete.

  3. Anti-knock. The light weight, Low modulus of elasticity and good performance of deformation resistance make it have a good anti-knock performance.

  4. Small density, light weight. Its bulk density is about 300～900kg/m3. The density of concrete made up of ceramsite is about 1100～1800kg/m3, and the according compressive strength is about 30.5～40.0Mpa. Its biggest character is hard in surface, while there are many pores inside. This character makes it light in weight.

  5. Strong adaptability. It has been proven by actual production at home and abroad that ceramsite can be produced with clay, shale, fly ash and other solid wastes. According to the different requirements, people can produce ceramsite with different bulk density and granularity like lightweight ceramsite, heat-insulation ceramsite and structural ceramsite, also ceramsite with special use like high temperature resistant ceramsite, acid resistant ceramsite and flower ceramsite etc.

  6. Good alkali resistance performance. The main components of concrete are cement and aggregate which includes gravels and sands. If the aggregate includes dolomite, limestone or other ore which contains SiO2 like opal and volcanic rock, the alkali in cement will have alkali-aggregate reaction with the aggregate. This reaction will cause disintegration of mineral rock and damage of building. There are a lot of buildings damaged because of alkali-aggregate reaction every year.
