I had to try things around a few times before mine would work. At first, only having a timer expired/do this, without conditions, would allow the trigger to run. A lot of the code all looks very similar but is separated and difficult to figure right now.
I got it to work for Patch 9 just fine. For patch 10, it is called TriggerAddEventTimer(Your timer here) and executes when this timer hits 0.
ATM i have heroes working a teeny bit. Trying to work out the whole xp part.
