Someone said vernam7 isn't releasing the "crack," - not really a crack, you'll find out when someone does show you how - to install the game ahead of the 27th - because he has ethics.
vernam7 doesn't have ethics. He created a tool to bypass Blizzard's intended system of only allowing official beta testers to play SC2. Now that the retail version is out and he can play it, somehow that means he has ethics? Actually, by his own admission he is playing a game that he shouldn't be playing, and since one cannot purchase a digital download license until the 27th, he is breaking the law and therefore behaving unethically. I would like to know why someone who has admitted to breaking the law, and right now is presumably the only criminal in the world who can do this, has not been contacted by Federal copyright authorities? Perhaps we should look into this.
The real reason vernam7 was able to figure out how to install the game ahead of time is because he was one of the beta testers, and has the appropriate registry settings that need to be altered in order to install. And the reason he's telling everyone about it is because he knows that very soon his battle.net beta workaround will soon be completely irrelevant and he's trying desperately to hold onto his fame.
The only real way for his name to become a permanent fixture in Starcraft 2 lore is to release the method for installing the game. However, he realizes this would likely result in an arrest, and is withholding. I don't blame him for that at all.
It's just annoying that people are treating him like a hero for telling everyone that he has broken the law but won't help them break the law too. I mean, c'mon. Guess what, I shot my girlfriend but I'm not going to help you shoot yours. Wow, my hero.
Man, this guy vernam7 was NOT hard to figure out...
You very seriously misunderstand vernam. You base your entire theory on vernam wanting to hold onto fame and yet, vernam's launcher is the most famous and possibly even the only working one around, he has already attained his place in starcraft lore and will always be more famous than you.
As for his ethics, you would realise if you read the forums that vernam does not modify any game files when launching the game, he does not break any of the beta test agreements which only include clauses such as selling the game for commercial purposes and "emulating" the battlenet server. He has held that he will continue to support blizzard.
vernam is simply giving a way for users who already have starcraft 2 installed, downloaded from blizzard themselves, to utilize the files they already have on their computers without emulating or even touching battlenet at all. Why? The same question can be asked to Blizzard on having such a large beta test in the first place. Even in the original starcraft, huge imbalances were present in the game until years and numerous patches later.
In creating this post, you have merely proved your selfishness in not wanting to support blizzard in buying the game because you simply want a free crack, while not acknowledging that vernam was the one who enabled you to play starcraft 2 at all, even if it was only with an AI.
I stopped reading your reply after your first paragraph. Once someone reaches the depths of logical embarrassment as you, there's no point in indulging. One, nobody will give a crap about vernam's beta hack once they are playing the retail game. I was one of the most highly favored CWAL members and nobody remembers me, or any of us. Fame is fleeting, so unless you have a magic crystal for one of your testicles then I'd say you don't have a clue how famous vernon or anyone else will be in their lifetimes. What a stupid, asinine thing to speculate upon.
So there you have it. I read one of your paragraphs and you blew it. I guess if you had a good point to make you should have done it at the beginning of your argument instead of throwing out some pointless ad hominem. You may reply if you want, but I'm not going to make myself dumber by reading it.
Guys stop arguing about... Vernam does not deserve all those words to be lost in vain. He does not have anything. He is just a script kiddie trying to be in the center of the discution. A troll nothing more about. A lot of the starcrack team and other that helped the sc2beta crack process think same.
