IP Tracking and Other Updates
submit to reddit

  • Something I've implemented recently was IP tracking. Until now, no one had access to it other than myself. However, since the SC community has been a great help, I figured it would only strengthen things to open this up to the public.

I think it's already been a great deal helpful in allowing easy identification (by IP hash) of users who are masking under different identities, so this will only make that easier. You'll find this as the last item on the page under their profile. In mine, for example, it shows the last seen IP addresses. If I had been noticed under a different IP, it would also list the other account names I was using.

The other thing you will notice is that you can click on the IP address to see any username which matched that address, for example: http://www.nibbits.com/account/mod/ip-lookup/503/

Moderators will soon gain the ability to clear out Ratings, Posts, and place bans, based on either an IP mask, or the username itself.

Last but not least, included in this was also a basic activity stream on your profile. Right now it's only showing your posts and map submissions, but this will be improved in the future.

  • Oh, and lastly, you now must be level 2 in order to send (not reply) to a private message. This will stop any spam attempts (like one that hit tonight).

  • Ah, I was going to ask about that. Wondered if I was the only one spammed or not. I guess not :D.

I replied to your message by the way dcramer, still up for a bit if you want to get on something and discuss what you were talking about (I assume it was mostly this above stuff ^^).

I've been debating on this. It's one of those hard to handle problems. I personally hate seeing big signature images, but if I can find a clean way to restrict the size/etc I will make it an option.

  • I noticed the last four maps put up aren't showing previews---is some sort of de-bugging thing up again preventing map previews or just happens four maps in a row using the wrong kind of protection? I put up one of the maps and it had protection but I forgot to check what kind.

  • I just uploaded another map...with no protection and no preview was generated. It's safe to assume the preview generation was accidentally turned off again... as the last seven or so maps are not showing any previews.
