- Custom Units: Stalkers to Dragoons
How to create a quick and easy custom unit
first copy and paste into a mod new folder the Base.SC2Data you use with your beta launcher with mpq editor
from inside the GameData folder you will need
- abilData.xml (unit abilities/summons)
- actorData.xml (unit acting)
- buttonData.xml (unless use existing button)
- modelData.xml (size and model)
- unitData.xml
#1 (open buttonData.xml)
first make a button, copy a button entry like
CButton id Stalker and change it to Dragoon
example:
#2 and 3 (open actorData.xml and modelData.xml)
then copy and paste model and actor entries for stalker...in actordata, change the name to dragoon so that dragoon acts like stalker (you don't have to copy death, weapon, explosion models entrys just the main parent entry)
actor example:
in modeldata.xml, copy and paste stalker entry, then make the parent = stalker so that the dragoon looks and acts like a stalker (since stalker is parent, death, weapon and explosion animations are the same as stalker)
note: you can add and edit the scale values to make it bigger or smaller
example:
#4 next, go to abildata.xml and create a gatewaytrain entry (use find word to find the location) copy and paste the stalker entry and rename it dragoon, change the time/train id number, minerals and vespene, make the button = dragoon and the unit = dragoon

So this actually work? In that case, cool! Can someone post a screenshot?
i use lazy launch 2 and it gives you an option to select your AI folder so i make a modded folder and put it inside there in /AI/ (delete the normal data file sitting out alone and just keep the cheat/normal folders because the normal data file adds the 3s SCVS and 3 Command centers...be sure to delete your extra gamedata/trig library folders laying around in the base game folder as well because that makes duplicates too)
edit:
or if your problem might be #2...mpq editor doesn't let you ACTUALLY edit the files directly INSIDE the MPQ so you have to edit them/they automatically extract to gamedatafolder, THEN after you are done editing you take the new edited files and copy them over the ones in the old mpq...delete the game data file and start up using your modded difficulty folder in the selection screen
I actually started a mod like this, but never really got into making it. I was gonna return the Lurker, considering all the files are still there. Maybe with this guide I can actually make one. :)
imageshack links do not work for me
hmm....everytime i copy the modded base.sc2data file and run it through valkryie's beta launcher, the base.sc2data always "pops" back into the original, unmodded one. Any help? :)

Awesome stuff! I hope to see some more custom unit maps. Now if only there were a terrain editor... then we would have something beautiful to work with.
