Hiya. I noticed that on the regulations it said there can be no custom textures. I am under the impression by no custom textures you mean you do not want to deal with mod packages and the like. I have a few custom sound files, a custom model, and a texture to go on that model. All of it is contained within the map file itself, so its still only one map file with no mods attached, just drop the map into the map folder and play. Is this still acceptable or is it disqualified for custom stuff?
The map needs to be loadable from a single file. So no hassle with installing custom mods.
If you can make it fit in the map file so the custom additions are transparently installed and loaded for the end user, yes then it's absolutely fine to use them :)
I have a question about the 2 minute cinematics restriction.
I'm guessing it's in there because nobody wants to have to sit through hours of crappy dialogue where they can't do anything.
I have an idea for a story arc that would tie nicely into the Wings of Liberty campaign and put an interesting spin on its story line.
I have found that you can pause a game mid-way through and play one of the Blizzard official cinematics which I think is almost of movie quality and would like to include it to give some context to the circumstances and see how the campaign story and the story in my map intertwine. The cinematic is about 2 minutes and 10 seconds (from memory).
Would this be allowed? what if the cinematic could be skipped by pressing spacebar or something like that?
This is of course all hypothetical at the moment. I'm not sure if it would be possible to do what I'm thinking from a technical perspective as well as having the free time and required knowledge to pull it off.
About the rules: They're a guideline on what we'd want to see, they're not set in stone.
We're not going to nitpick if you have a great story that takes a 3 minutes of cinematics to tell. We have to define some boundaries on what to do and what not to do..
Follow the 'rules' generally, sway a bit off them if you feel it improves the quality of your contest entry. Clarified this in the rules too
How much extra time do you need ?, I can extend it a few days if you really need it :)"
Two months :) I'm going to be busy over the next while. I'm uploading a small sample now but I'll probably work on it a bit tomorrow as well. It's not going to be finished anytime soon though.
It shall be a teaser for the fully working game which I'll finish at a later date.
Also, when I went to upload it to the contest there were two options. Presumably one is an earlier file of the same map.
The valid map is whichever is the more recently edited/uploaded one but I can't see that kind of detail about the maps to know which is the proper one. Could you please remove the older version?

The files as they were do not work. They had a massive bug which made the game unplayable :( Please remove them as they will only waste time of people trying out the different maps.
I have since fixed this problem and uploaded a new map version. If you could remove the older versions and put the newest version as a contest entry I would be thankful. as the deadline has already passed I would consider it fair if I am disallowed from recieving any prizes or XP if you think it is fair.
Sorry this is very late but I missed the email you sent me to tell me I won.
I didn't realize until I was linking someone else to this site and saw the competition results.
Anyway, in the email you stated that the prize could be other than Deus ex which was the prize listed on the competition page. I'm not really interested in Deus ex but would love to play through the third prize: Limbo.
I have sent a reply email to the one you sent me with my steam account details.
Thankyou for holding this competition :)
David.
EDIT: Recieved the game! Playing it now. Thankyou.

personally if more than one people find the 2mins a little tight, Mag may slightly increase the limit to 3 min but no more than that.
we do love cinematics, but this is more a campaign not a cinematic contest ;-)

And there's 2 entries in, start playing so you can vote next month :)
noooooo... I don't think I'll be done in time (this is pretty typical of me lol)
Oh well. Hopefully I can get it to a working state by deadline and if people like it they will try it again when it is finished
